An internet connection + a computer + a screen = real-time departure information
Behind the scenes
Routefriend's Travelboard departure screens have been designed for simplicity. At their core, they are a website displayed on a screen.
You provide the screens
For Travelboard's installation at the South Norwalk train station, five large, flat-screen television screens have been placed at key locations around the station. 42" TVs can be purchased for as little as $500. Smaller screens are even more affordable.
We provide the software
Routefriend presents the departure information on your screen by processing schedule or real-time data provided by the transit agency. This service is provided free-of-charge, supported by advertising.

Departure screens work anywhere.

South Norwalk train station - Norwalk, CT

South Norwalk train station serves 75,000 boardings per month. It lies at the junction of the Danbury Branch and the New Haven Line, commuter rail lines operated by Metro-North serving New York City.

In partnership with the Norwalk Parking Authority, which administers the station, Routefriend developed a network of departure screens that reach every corner of the station. Two screens are positioned at entrances, two more in the station's waiting areas and one in the station cafe. With the exception of the cafe screen, the screens are 42" flat-screen televisions. All of the screens are run from a single laptop.

The screens remind travelers of the schedule and alert them to delays. According to Parking Authority administrator Kathryn Hebert, "The commuters are ecstatic!"
